We work from the seating and equipment plan, agree containment and routes with the fit-out contractor and building management, terminate and label every outlet, and test each link before handover.

Cat6 and Cat6A copper cabling
Most office floors are cabled in Cat6 or Cat6A depending on the switching, the length of the runs and how long the cabling has to serve the business. Cat6A gives more headroom for 10G links and for dense wireless, and is often used for access point and backbone-to-floor runs even where desks stay on Cat6.
We confirm outlet counts per desk, meeting room, printer point, camera and access point, so the horizontal cabling matches the fit-out rather than an assumed layout.
Fibre optic backbone and uplinks
Where a business occupies more than one floor, has a second comms room, or needs uplinks longer than copper can support, we install fibre optic backbone links between comms rooms and terminate them on patch panels for the switching to use.
Not every office needs fibre. We tell you when copper is sufficient and when the distance, bandwidth or building layout genuinely calls for a fibre backbone.
Data and voice outlets
Desk, wall, floor-box and meeting-room outlets are planned from the furniture layout, with voice and data on a common structured cabling system so extensions and desks can be moved by re-patching rather than re-cabling.
Comms room, racks and patch panels
We build the comms room to suit the equipment it has to hold: rack selection and layout, patch panels, vertical and horizontal cable management, power distribution, and space left for the switching, firewall, PABX and recording equipment that follows.
Tidy patching is not cosmetic — it is what makes later faults, moves and additions quick instead of disruptive.
Containment and route coordination
Cable routes, trays, trunking, riser and shaft use are coordinated with the fit-out contractor, the MEP trades and building management, including approved working hours and access arrangements for the building.
Link testing, labelling and as-built records
Every link is tested and the results are handed over with the project. Outlets, patch panels and cables are labelled consistently, and you receive as-built records showing what was installed and where it terminates.
Moves, adds and changes
Offices change. We handle additional outlets, desk reconfigurations, extra access point or camera runs, and comms room additions after handover, without disturbing the existing installation.
Integration with switching, Wi-Fi, CCTV, IP PABX and access control
Because TKWIT also installs the network, wireless, surveillance, telephony and access control, the cabling is designed for what will actually connect to it — PoE budgets for access points and cameras, ports for door controllers, and outlets where handsets and equipment will sit.

Frequently asked questions
- Should we use Cat6 or Cat6A for a Port City Colombo office?
- Cat6 is usually adequate for standard desk outlets on gigabit switching. Cat6A gives more headroom for 10G links, longer runs and dense wireless, so it is often chosen for access point runs and backbone-to-floor links, or where the business wants the cabling to last through several equipment refreshes. We recommend per run rather than applying one grade everywhere.
- Do we need fibre optic cabling in the office?
- Only where it is justified — multiple floors or comms rooms, uplinks beyond the reliable length of copper, or backbone bandwidth above what copper uplinks provide. For a single-floor office, copper is often sufficient, and we will say so.
- Can TKWIT coordinate with our fit-out contractor and building management?
- Yes. Containment routes, riser and shaft access, working hours and site rules are agreed with the fit-out contractor and building management before cabling starts, and we sequence our work around the fit-out programme.
- Do you test and document the cabling?
- Yes. Links are tested and the results are handed over, outlets and patch panels are labelled consistently, and as-built records are provided so future changes are straightforward.
