System design for security, network and phone system projects
The design stage is where a project is decided: what goes where, how it is cabled, how it is powered, and how the parts talk to each other. We produce that design from a surveyed site, so the installation that follows has something concrete to build to.
A design is not a product list. It is a set of decisions — device positions, cable routes, rack layout, power and network capacity, numbering and labelling — recorded clearly enough that a different engineer could pick it up. Where a project is quoted from a design, the scope stops moving and the cost stops surprising people.

Everything below is part of the scope we agree in writing before work starts.
Site survey and measurement
We walk the building, record construction, containment, ceiling voids, riser positions, existing racks and available power, and note the constraints that will shape the installation.
Device and outlet layout
Camera positions, access points, door controllers, data outlets and handsets marked against the actual floor layout, with what each one is there to do.
Cable routes and containment
Practical routes from each device back to the rack, with cable types and lengths, so the quantities in the quotation reflect the building rather than an estimate.
Rack and equipment schedule
Rack elevation, switch and patch panel positions, recorder and PABX placement, power distribution and the equipment list that supports the layout.
Network and power capacity
PoE budget, switch port counts, uplink capacity and cabinet power checked against the design instead of assumed afterwards.
Labelling and numbering scheme
Outlet, port, camera, door and extension numbering agreed up front so records, testing and future support all use the same names.

What we work out before quoting
These are the decisions that determine whether the finished system is useful or merely installed.
- What has to be delivered, and when
- Access windows, ceiling and floor programme, and handover dates change the sequence far more than equipment choice does.
- Coverage before hardware
- We decide what must be seen, covered or connected first; the device count follows from that rather than leading it.
- Reusing what is already installed
- Existing cabling, racks and cameras are assessed on condition and capacity so nothing serviceable is thrown away.
- Room for growth
- Spare capacity in cabling, ports and rack space planned deliberately, so the next phase is an addition instead of a rebuild.
- Who supports it afterwards
- Documentation and labelling are designed so your own team, or ours, can trace a fault without opening every ceiling tile.
- Coordination with other trades
- Power, ceiling, joinery and access work are identified in the design so the installation is not waiting on someone else on the day.

Installation is the start of the relationship, not the end of it.

Questions
Frequently asked
- Is system design worth it on a small project?
- Often yes. On a small site one or two decisions — where the rack goes, how many outlets per room — determine whether the system is usable, and those are cheap to get right on paper.
- Do we have to use TKWIT for the installation?
- No. The design documents are yours and can be issued to whoever installs the work. Implementation is a separate decision and can be quoted separately.
- Can you design for a site outside Colombo?
- Yes. We work across Sri Lanka; for sites outside Colombo we confirm the location first and plan the survey visit around your access times.
- What do we receive at the end?
- A device and outlet layout, cable routes, a rack and equipment schedule, capacity notes and a labelling scheme — enough to quote from and to build to.
