They are caused by too few access points, access points in the wrong places, no wired capacity behind them, or one flat network shared by staff, guests and everything else in the building. A survey of your building, before anything is quoted
Colombo office buildings vary enormously — glass-partitioned floors, solid-walled older buildings, concrete cores, lift lobbies, plant rooms and basements all behave differently. So does a hotel wing or a warehouse with a twelve-metre ceiling.
We survey the space, look at construction, existing containment and cable routes, and identify the areas where coverage genuinely matters. The access point count that comes out of that is a design output, not a starting assumption.

Access point placement is the decision that matters most
Two installations with identical hardware can perform completely differently depending on where the access points sit. Ceiling positions, mounting height, orientation, distance from metal and proximity to the next access point all change what a user experiences at their desk.
We place access points for the areas people actually use — desks, meeting rooms, reception, back offices, canteens, corridors, loading areas — rather than spacing them evenly for a tidy-looking plan.
PoE switching and the wired side behind the wireless
Every access point needs a data cable and Power over Ethernet from a switch. If the switching does not have the port count, the PoE budget or the uplink capacity, the wireless cannot deliver what the access points are capable of.
We size the switching against the access points chosen and the other devices sharing the same infrastructure, and we include the cable runs, containment and rack work needed to get there. Where cabling is required, it is done as structured cabling with testing and labelling, not as loose runs above a ceiling.

Guest and staff networks that are actually separate
Visitors, contractors and customer devices should not sit on the same network as your file server, cameras and accounts systems. Separation means distinct networks and VLANs on the switching, with firewall rules deciding what may reach what — not simply a second wireless name.
Where a guest network is wanted, we set it up with its own segment and its own rules, and we tell you plainly what it can and cannot reach.
Meeting rooms, boardrooms and dense spaces
Meeting rooms concentrate people, laptops, phones and video units into a small area, which is a capacity problem rather than a coverage problem. Adding signal does not help; adding and tuning capacity does.
Training rooms, contact-centre floors, canteens and event spaces get the same treatment: designed for the peak they will actually see, not the average.
Roaming that does not drop the call
Walking from a desk to a meeting room while on a call is where badly configured wireless becomes obvious. Roaming depends on overlapping coverage, sensible power levels and consistent configuration across access points.
We set that up deliberately and then walk the route to confirm it, including stairwells, corridors and lobbies where handover between access points is most likely to fail.
Warehouses, hotels and industrial sites
High ceilings, racking that changes shape, cold stores, external yards and long thin buildings need different access points and different mounting from an office floor. Racking in particular blocks signal in ways that shift as stock moves.
Hotels bring their own pattern: guest rooms behind solid walls, corridors, function rooms, back-of-house and outdoor areas, each with different expectations and different density.

Validation before handover, and support afterwards
We walk the site after installation and check signal and throughput where people work, confirm roaming, verify that guest and staff separation behaves as designed, and record the results. If something is short, it is corrected before handover rather than reported as a fault later.
You receive the access point layout, network names, addressing and configuration notes at handover, so whoever supports the site next has what they need. Ongoing support and periodic reviews are arranged separately.

Frequently asked
- How many access points does an office in Colombo need?
- It depends on the building, not the headcount. Floor area, partitioning, construction and the number of devices in each area decide the count. A survey gives a defensible number; a per-square-foot rule of thumb usually gets it wrong in one direction or the other.
- Can you improve the Wi-Fi we already have instead of replacing it?
- Often, yes. We survey what is installed, identify whether the problem is placement, capacity, configuration, cabling or the switching behind it, and tell you what can be improved with the existing equipment and what genuinely needs replacing.
- Do you separate guest Wi-Fi from our internal network?
- Yes, where you want it. That is done with separate networks and VLANs on the switching and rules on the firewall, so guest devices cannot reach internal systems. We explain the arrangement in writing at handover.
- Do you cover buildings outside Colombo?
- Yes. Our office is in Colombo and we work across the suburbs and island-wide in Sri Lanka, including multi-site work where each site is delivered to the same standard.
- Do you handle the cabling for new access point positions?
- Yes. New access point positions need data cabling back to a switch, and we install, test, label and document those runs as part of the same project rather than leaving them to another contractor.
